This cartoon, a slightly modified “Wizard of Id”, highlights a fundamental split between labor and liberalism. Some people want benefits without having to work for them, while others want to have the opportunity to achieve on their own merits, and want to keep the benefits. The first prefer liberals, and want stuff; the second are labor-Democrats and want jobs. The problem: to give stuff to the first group, you have to take it from the second.
Robert E. Buxbaum, October 26, 2015. I’ve written a much longer entry on the split between conservatives and republicans — those being the two main groups in the current Republican Party. Somehow the split within the Democratic party, above was a lot easier to discuss.
